Private Birth Doula Training

HealthConnect One's Private Birth Doula Training complies with the requirements of DONA International, the organization that represents and certifies most doulas in the USA.

Questions & Answers

1.  Do you do trainings?

Yes, we offer birth doula trainings that last 2 ½ days.  Contact us for specific schedules.

2.  Who should attend these trainings?

Birth doula trainings are designed for women who are interested in providing doula support to other women during labor and birth.  Many birth doulas maintain a private practice, in which they charge a fee for their services. HC One also conducts 20-session community-based doula trainings in partnership with agencies starting community-based doula programs.

3.  What is the fee for the training?

It is $395, which includes a training manual, light refreshments, and lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

4.  Where are your trainings held?

The trainings are usually held at our office, 1436 West Randolph, 4th floor in Chicago, Illinois. However, we try to be as centrally located as possible so the trainings are sometimes held in different communities in the Chicagoland area. All interested parties will be informed of the training location.

5.  How long is HealthConnect One's birth doula training?

The training usually takes place over a weekend (about 2 ½ days), and times do vary.  The training usually begins on Friday late afternoon, and lasts all day Saturday, and Sunday.

6.  Is HealthConnect One's training recognized around the country?

HealthConnect One birth doula training is approved by Doula of North America International (DONA), the organization that represents and certifies most doulas in the US.

7  Does your training meet DONA's doula certification requirements?

HC One's training is recognized by DONA as the first step toward doula certification.

8.  How many training hours is a trainee required to obtain through the birth doula training?

DONA International requires 16 hours of training education.

9.  Is there extra preparation that is required before the birth doula training?

No extra preparation is required. However, prior to training, we do recommend reading The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin.

10.  What is the class size?

The maximum class size is 15, and class sizes generally range from 12-15 participants.  As class size is limited, we suggest that you register soon to ensure a spot.

11.  Are scholarships available, and how do I apply?

At times a partial scholarship is available, dependant upon the number of attendees. We can offer only one partial scholarship per class session; you can enquire about details upon registration.

12.  Do you hire doulas?

Since we do not provide direct service, we do not hire doulas, but we do put out job announcements if agencies are looking for doulas.
