Tammi Williams

Rehabilitation Counselor

Tammi Williams, MA is a Rehabilitation Counselor for Michigan Rehabilitation Services and an adjunct professor of psychology at Lake Michigan College.  As a Rehabilitation Counselor, Ms. Williams assists persons with disabilities in overcoming barriers to employment.  Ms. Williams teaches Introduction to Psychology and Human Development.  In her position with Michigan Rehabilitation Services she was responsible for the design and implementation of DREAM (Daring to Redefine, Empower, and Accept Myself), a program encouraging individuals who have lost sight of who they are to regain their sense of purpose and a master's level internship program for students in counseling and related fields.  In addition to her duties as a Rehabilitation Counselor Ms. Williams responsibilities have expanded to include the role of Trainer.  She has assisted in the New Counselor Training for all newly hired counselors with Michigan Rehabilitation Services.  Her focus in the training is "Working with the Mentally Ill."

 

Ms. Williams was a member of the Transition Team for Michigan Prisoner Re-entry Program (MPRI), assisting in the design and implementation of the pilot program for Berrien County.  She was also instrumental in leading a local crisis response team that was asked to work with companies and schools, assisting employees, administration, teachers and students deal with unforeseen tragedy.  In this role, she and her team worked directly with survivors, firefighters, policemen and families of victims in the wake of Katrina and New York following 9/11.  She currently serves on the board of directors for HealthConnect One.  Past board seats includes Henry Booth House and Recovery 2000.  In a volunteer capacity, she lends her expertise to local nonprofits and has strengths in program integration and service delivery, and has provided support to Chicago's Cease Fire, junvenile justice and gang intervention initiatives.

 

Ms. Williams is a doctoral candidate in the counseling psychology program at Andrew's University, and holds certifications in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Play Therapy.
