Umbilical Cord Blood - Link to Life
Toolkit and Training
As part of a two-year project funded by The Coleman Foundation, HC One developed messages and identified messengers to educate African-American and Hispanic birthing families on the option to donate umbilical cord blood. The result is a toolkit and training program for direct service providers.
This toolkit and training program is primarily designed to support community health workers, case managers, prenatal educators, doulas and breastfeeding peer counselors in educating their clients on the need, process and value of umbilical cord blood donation. HealthConnect One has piloted this program with Access Kling Clinic, Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Miles Square Health Center, and the Westside Association for Community Action (WACA) in Chicago, and shared the outcomes in October 2010 at the World Stem Cell Summit.
