Gil Zamora works as HealthConnect One’s Development Manager to promote, support and celebrate the work of community health workers (CHWs) in birth and breastfeeding. Since joining HealthConnect One in 2013, he has worked with our staff, Associate Board, and Board of Directors to bring in new donors, crowd source scholarship funds to send CHWs to our Washington DC Summits, and plan our successful (and fun) summer cocktail and fundraising event.
Gil has over twelve years’ experience in the non-profit sector, which he started as an AmeriCorp Member at Jumpstart at San Francisco State. He was a Program Coordinator for the City of Oakland’s Family Literacy program, which partnered with Head Start and included many collaborative community agencies including school districts, libraries, community clinics, museums, and private corporations.
His non-profit administrative and direct-service roles in Illinois and California have allowed him to support work in various fields including: HIV/AIDS; Breast Health; Migrant Services; Youth Development; and Maternal and Family Health Services.
Gil received his MFA in Creative Writing at Roosevelt University in Chicago and is fluent in English and Spanish. He is a writer, runner, necktie enthusiast and music fan, but above all he aspires to be the favorite uncle to his 1-year-old niece and nephew.
